Chugiak/Eagle River Real Estate

Nearly 35,000 people live in the Chugiak and Eagle River areas on both sides of Glenn Highway. Chugiak and Eagle River have experienced rapid growth over the past two decades, boosted by increased tourism, and their prime location for those who work at Fort Richardson Army base and Elmendorf Air Force Base. Both military bases offer an easy commute for families living in Anchorage, Eagle River, or the Mat-Su Valley. Live in the Chugiak and Eagle River area is much like a rural retreat from the state’s largest city, but with a close-knit community feel with all of the amenities.

Over the past decades, both Eagle River and Chugiak have experienced major improvements in retail stores, restaurants and medical and dental services. Residents of Eagle River and Chugiak are enjoying first-run movies at recently opened theatre’s six screens, and enjoying an array of menu items served at local restaurants that serve everything from Mexican, Italian, Indian, and Thai to compliment the many national restaurant chains. Shopping options range from the small, independently-owned specialty boutiques to the major retail stores like Wal-Mart, Safeway and others.

Both Eagle River and Chugiak students receive public education from the Anchorage School District in the 10 public schools available or one of the many private schools. Health services in the Eagle River and Chugiak area are primarily provided by the public sector, but within a 20-25 minute drive residents can find the services they need at the Alaska Regional Hospital, Providence Hospital in Anchorage and the Alaska Native Medical Center.

Of course, the Eagle River and Chugiak areas are blessed with incredible outdoor recreational opportunities that include numerous parks that are perfect getaways for fishing, camping, rafting, climbing, canoeing, biking and cross country skiing. Some local parks have even set aside areas for use by ATVs and snow machines. The spectacular slopes of the Alpenglow at Artic Valley ski resort are available for the downhill skiing enthusiast just 15 minutes away from downtown Eagle River, too!

Chugiak and Eagle River communities know how to come together for a good time, too. From its many festivals and holiday celebrations, the community spirit is celebrated in a variety of events. From the annual Bear Paw Festival in July that includes a scholarship and beauty pageant, a 5k foot race, parade and the more unique options like the Slippery Salmon Derby, Stinky Sneaker Competition and the Dog & Owner Look-Alike Contest. All these events correspond with days of fun, filled with rides, food and vendors everywhere.
